Bespoke Eyewear in Glenview
Most people find something they like on the wall. A few don't, and they usually know it within about ten minutes.
Bespoke is for them. The frame gets drawn from nothing, in the material you choose, to the measurements of your face.
Where it starts
It starts at the bench, with a conversation about how you want the frame to sit and what you want it made from. Form, color, finish, the width across your temples, where the bridge lands. I sketch from that. You see the drawing and a prototype before anything gets cut.Materials
Horn and premium acetate. Each one behaves differently under a file, and each ages differently on a face.
Horn takes a deep polish and warms to the skin. Acetate gives the widest range of color, which is why a lot of custom
work starts there.
We'll talk through which suits the design and how you'll actually wear it.How this differs from the Optical Kitchen
The Optical Kitchen is where you build from a base shape and choose your own color plate. It's hands-on, it's yours, and it's ready in about two weeks.
Bespoke goes further back than that. There's no base shape to start from. The frame is designed for your face and made by hand here in Glenview. When it's worth it
A fit that nothing on the wall accommodates. A prescription that needs a specific shape to work properly. A material you can't find anywhere else. Or you want a frame that exists once.
Because each pair is drawn and built from scratch, the timeline runs longer than a standard build. You'll get a real date at the consultation.Frame making workshops
I also teach frame making a few times a year, here in the Glenview workshop. Tools, techniques, hinge mechanics, finishing. It's open to industry members with a desire to learn the craft or simply have a better understanding on the mechanics of eyewear. Corner Optical is at 1527 Waukegan Road in Glenview. If you've got a frame in mind, or a fit nothing has solved, come in and we'll talk it through at the bench. You can also see how a custom pair comes together on Optical News.
